Local climate solutions powered by faith communities

Environmental Justice Webinar in October

FACS’ Alexandria Hub is hosting a webinar on Tuesday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Michael Malcom, founder and director of the People's Justice Council and Alabama Interfaith Power and Light, will discuss how faith communities, in particular vulnerable communities and people of color, are taking action on the climate crisis and its social justice issues.

Climate Crisis Forum on November 17

Our annual Virginia Climate Crisis Forum will focus on our children’s future. It will feature Fairfax County Board Chair Jeff McKay, Arlington County Board Chair Matt de Ferranti, and guest speakers from Our Children’s Trust, the world’s only non-profit public interest law firm dedicated exclusively to securing the legal rights of youth to a healthy atmosphere and safe climate, based on the best available science. Please invite your neighbors, friends, and family to join us for this important discussion on climate solutions needed now to safeguard our families' futures.

Voicing Your Values

On September 9, the Audubon Naturalist Society and FACS held a joint webinar on how to testify in Fairfax County. Though testifying can be intimidating, it is one of the most powerful tools you have to share your thoughts on an issue. Did you miss the webinar or would you like to share it with your faith community? A recording is available, and the three steps to testifying (sign up, write up, show up) are applicable for any county!

Impact is Fun

FACS was featured as an environmental changemaker Game Genius' 3rd Annual District Hunt! This environmentally-themed, virtual treasure “puzzle” hunt through DC celebrated the local community and built awareness around environmental stewardship, biodiversity, natural spaces, climate change, and consumption. We were honored to be asked to be an event partner.

Thanks to FACS climate advocates who sent 330 emails, testified by video and in person, and met with your Supervisors! We also want to thank everyone who participated in our photo petition. During October, we will be developing an outline for advocacy work in the county and in support of the FACS legislative agenda. The next monthly meeting is Wednesday, October 6 at 7:30 p.m.
