Fairfax County Hub Updates

It’s been a busy month! We met with Supervisor Penny Gross, County Executive Bryan Hill, and testified at the Board of Supervisors county-wide budget hearings. Topics included the need for a Chief Sustainability Officer with cross-department authority to lead the county toward CECAP goals, urgent Federal grants opportunities to help electrify the county’s fleet and transit systems, the need to include solar on the county’s affordable housing, and the importance of our trees. We also had 55 people join our cause, most from a tabling event at Mom’s Organic Market: thank you, Mom’s! We showed patience, persistence and, when needed, pushiness.

The Fairfax hub meets on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm, with the next meeting on May 12th.

City of Alexandria Hub Updates

Thanks to the advocacy of our hub and other local groups, the City has proposed a new $2M fund for initiatives to address climate change. Also, during April, we continued discussions with City staff on potential programs to address the energy burdens facing many low- and moderate-income households. Attend our Tuesday, May 10, 7:00pm monthly hub meeting to find out more and hear about activities for this summer.

Our next meeting will be Thursday, May 10 at 7pm. Sign up for hub news and meeting info here

Arlington County Hub Updates

The Arlington Hub weighed in on the Arlington Budget Process, advocating for a Whole of Government approach. And there was progress! On April 20, a budget was adopted that includes new investments of more than $4.65 million to execute climate resilient programs to combat climate change. Looking forward, the Hub is getting organized to press the Board on ways it can advance the county's carbon neutral goals in the upcoming Capital Improvement Plan.

The Arlington Hub monthly meeting will be on the first Wednesday of the month, with the next meeting on May 4th at 7:30 p.m.

Northern Valley Hub Updates

Welcome to our newest hub in the Northern Shenandoah Valley!

We celebrated Earth Day and the Northern Valley Hub launch on April 24th with a wonderful event at Bethel Lutheran Church, including a presentation by FACS, a vegetarian picnic, and the planting of a native tree. Read more and enjoy the photos in our blog post!
