Local climate solutions powered by faith communities

Advocacy Day

Join us online on January 13th, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. for an interactive conversation about regional climate goals and FACS' diverse advocacy opportunities. Learn how to get involved in meaningful, impactful, faith-based action! We are honored that author, environmentalist, and activist Bill McKibben will be delivering opening remarks on the climate crisis and the importance of local organizing.

EOY Giving Campaign: Our Collective Future

The New Year always makes us think of our future. At FACS, our events this year have centered on Our Children’s Future. As youth climate activist Layla H. from Our Children’s Trust said, “I realized that the tiniest insect to the largest political figure were all deeply, greatly impacted by climate change. This year, invest in Our Collective Future. For ourselves, our children, our grandchildren, and beyond, the threat of climate change is already at our doors. This year, let us come together to protect Our Collective Future. Give Today.

Sign Our Petition to Governor-Elect Youngkin

There's still time to add your voice and urge the Governor-elect to combat the climate crisis. With over 300 signatures, we are sending a message to Governor-elect Youngkin that Virginians speak up for nature. Sign the petition and share it with friends and family to sign this month.

FACS Digital Organizer Update

Our digital organizer is behind our newsletter, emails, and social media. We welcome Shannon Boley as the new Digital Organizer for FACS. Shannon focuses on interfaith engagement and peacework, and she is a graduate of Harvard Divinity School. Learn more about our team here.
We want to thank Natalie Cain for all the amazing work she has done for the past year - FACS would not be where it is today without her talent, hard-work, and dedication! We wish her the best with her future endeavors, and we welcome her to her new role as a super volunteer.

Sixth Annual Virginia Climate Crisis Forum

Did you miss this year's Climate Crisis Forum? You can watch it now on YouTube and share it with your neighbors and friends. The discussion with Fairfax County Chair Jeff McKay, Arlington County Chair Matt de Ferranti, and Prince William County Chair Ann Wheeler provided many insights on local solutions to the climate crisis. The forum also featured a fascinating discussion with a senior attorney and youth leader from Our Children's Trust, the world's only non-profit interest law firm dedicated exclusively to securing the legal rights of youth to a healthy atmosphere and safe climate.

NOVA to Zero

Last year’s Fairfax to Zero campaign was based on the effort to promote local policies that will reduce greenhouse gases emitted in Fairfax County. The goal is to reach carbon neutrality by 2050, if not sooner.

Now we're going bigger! FACS' faith community network has already expanded throughout Northern Virginia (NOVA), so our ongoing efforts should reflect that. Just like Fairfax to Zero, our NOVA to Zero advocacy, education, and outreach efforts will focus on attainable and transformative strategies that will promote resilient communities, clean air, improved health, new businesses, and sustainable jobs. How can you help? Pledge to give in 2022 or donate now to help power our work throughout Northern Virginia!
